As everyone in America knows, today is a sad, mournful day! Yes, life goes on, but there will always be that black cloud hanging over us and every September 11th it will open up once again to remind us that we aren't invincible. That we may be the the BIGGEST, BADDEST SOB's on the block, but we can still be knocked on our asses when caught sleeping.
While reading the morning paper yesterday, I realized something. 9/11 will ALWAYS be with us. We will always know where we were that day. What we were doing, who we were with and how we felt when we first heard the news!
I remember growing up and listening to Mommy talk about the day Kennedy was assignated. How she could still remember 25-30 years later where she was when she heard the news that President Kennedy had been shot. I remember her saying that she was scared, and that's exactly how I felt! I was sitting in the breakroom at Nestle in Mount Sterling when I heard we'd been attacked! I remember racing home to watch the news, and even though I'd been up all night working, how I kept Hunter home from daycare just so I could be near him. I've never been so scared in my life! To think America was no longer safe was a blow that was and still is hard to absorb.
I remember being numb with disbelief. Not knowing what to do or say. We must press on and continue leading our lives. We must show them, that while America may be scared, we don't tuck tail and run. We don't hide and we certainly will NEVER give up or give in. We're here to stay! We'll fight to the death to save our country, it's people and our way of life. While terrorism may win the battle, America will win the war!
I want to take a moment to honor those that died on that fateful day. Those that gave their lives helping others and those whose lives were taken. May the Lord bless you, and know that we were all touched by your loss. Not as strangers, but as friends we'd not yet met!
To the men and women fighting to defend our honor, our country and our way of life, THANK YOU! While not all Americans may agree with this war, the Hurst clan knows that you and your families are sacrificing A LOT for the rest of us, and deserve respect and support. I hope that each and every one of you come home to us safe and sound.
A special shout out from the Hurst clan to Jimmy, Brandon, Wes, & Gump! We love you all, come home to us soon, we miss you! And if I've missed anyone, just give me a good smack upside the head when next we meet!
The Hurst clan hopes you enjoy this day and all those to come! We will!
